Chapter two
Don’t hold back
This chapter talks about a multitude of things, starting with some characteristics of God. Since there are so many to choose from, Nolan narrowed it down to just a few. These including His patience and Holiness. He also talks a little bit about how we can communicate with God, some examples of this are sports, art, music, nature, and more. All of these things can be also be called worship. Nolan then, tells the readers about some different ways that prevent us from worshipping. There are thousands of possible examples for this, and Nolan uses a few. This chapter covered many topics, but they are all important.
Today, I’m going to use “I statements”. This chapter can help me identify ways that I either accidentally or subconsciously distance myself from God. I, personally, run away from God when things get hard for many reasons. I don’t make time for Him, I don’t speak to Him, and more. This chapter helped me realize that I have to do the exact opposite of these things in order to grow in and strengthen my relationship with God. Whenever I am at my angriest and I don’t want to listen to worship music, I will force myself to listen to it; because I know it will help in the long run. Whenever I don’t want to speak to Him, I need to tell Him about my day in detail. The truth is, whenever things get rough, then especially, God wants to be there for you.
So here’s my challenge for you. Try to find out the answers to these questions. How are you distancing yourself from God? What can you do to counteract that? Lastly, who in your life can help keep you accountable in this area?
I hope you have an amazing day! God can’t wait to hear about it :)
