Cultivate Your Primary Skill

Good morning, afternoon, and evening (depending on when you're reading this). So, different series, but same person. Paul Baloche's video on cultivating your primary skill had a multitude of nuggets of wisdom in there. If I had to sum the video into one word, it would be "dedication". How much dedication do you have towards worship? Do you practice on your own/outside of rehearsal with the team as a whole? Do you call in sick, the morning of, because of a cough? Paul talks about all of those things.

I fall into this trap a lot. I am blessed enough to have a church that is still open and holding full services, like we did before Covid. This allows me to practice at least twice a week and "preform" once. Through that, I get some compliments on how the Lord used me as a vessel. Those comments bring joy, because it means I'm doing something right and I should keep doing what I am doing. However, I find I allow myself free passes during the week because I think "well God used me Sunday and I didn't practice outside of Thursday nights, I don't need to this week either". I allow myself to be lazy. Which is not good, especially when pertains to worshipping the One who gave me all I have. This video convicted me to stop allowing myself to have excuses and to get up, off Netflix, and to do at the very least some vocal warmups. The more time I commit to my instrument, the better and easier it will be for God to use me as a vessel.
