Distractions
Paul Baloche talked about how the congregation will be distracted as they are coming in. They might be in a fight with a family member or friend or they could just have a lot on their mind. It is our job to create a worship set that isn't immediately a fall-on-your-knees kind of song, because they probably aren't in that headspace yet.
I love that he said this. I've found that the most difficult days with my mom are Sundays; especially if I will be leading that day. Those are the days where we fight non-stop and I begin to have anxiety attacks and cry and mom gets upset and anxious as well and it just feels like nothing is going right and those are the days that just make me want to quit. That is because as a worship team, we are the first line of defense. We will get hit first each week and sometimes the hardest. But we can not give in. Those days, the devil knows that you are becoming closer with God, so he will use anyone and anything he can to get you to turn away. Don't fall for it. Once you push through, get up on that stage, and step into the light of the Lord...it'll all fall away.
A few weeks ago, I went from having an anxiety attack and sobbing uncontrollably with my worship leader to dancing, shouting, and worshipping on stage in the name of the Lord feelings the warmth of His radiant love. Once we as a worship team can do that, we will be able to help our congregation with that as well. It will allow us to better and quicker get them focused on what truly matters.
Going from that really low moment to being happy and worshiping God is an amazing thing Courtney! God can really help improve our mood if we allow it. Worshiping is kind of like a distraction from the world. Just a moment between you and God and the audience and God.
