Preformance
Today, we watched two of Paul's videos. They talked about how to balance the performance mindset with the worship mindset. Paul said that it is kind of like talking to a dog. Telling the performer in you to "stay" where it is and not to move. He talked about how it is important to try and reduce the performance mindset as much as possible, so that you can lead by example of what worship can be; instead of showing how big an ego you can get. Paul spoke about how he covets mega-churches sometimes because they have all the new gadgets and such and how he has to keep reminding himself to ask the Lord how to best serve the people he is meant to with the gadgets he already has.
It's kind of funny, but my worship on stage is more authentic than it is when I worship from the pews. It sounds crazy, but it's true. When I am in the pews I am constantly thinking about how others are looking at me and how they preserve me in that moment. I constantly have to remind myself where their attention should be and more importantly, where my attention should be. Not on myself, on the Lord and all He is doing. So this one really reminded me that I need to be on myself when that happens.
Very interesting insight on your own personal worship! It's rare that one is more genuine when more eyes are on them, but you display that humility that we're called to have on stage excellently.
