Picking your team

In this video, Paul Baloche talked about how to build your worship team. Although he did not exclusively say this, Paul talked about how the Lord will provide the right worship leaders for your team. He talked about how it's okay to go for a while with only a few players on the team. He talked about how he discretely picks up worship leaders. How he observes them for a few weeks and then starts a conversation with them. After they've had a conversation, he invites the person to come to rehearsal with him so they can get a feel for it. If he then decides that this is a person he wants on his team, then he slyly asks him to play on a Sunday morning, and it goes from there. Paul also mentioned that it is easier to let people into worship team, but it's harder to take people out of the team.

I feel like there is a lot of good to what he said. I like that he first observes potential worship leaders and gets to know them before being on worship team. I think it is incredibly important to know who you're letting into the worship team. Because, if there is no "background check" for a lack of a better term, there can be extremely detrimental affects. However, I don't think that it is more difficult to take people off the team. I feel like as a worship leader, it is your duty to protect the team and if that means taking someone out due to performance or relational issues it should not be an issue to do so. If you've prayed about it and God has cleared you to take the person off the team, then it shouldn't be difficult. But, overall I like what he said about picking your worship team.
