How to Write A Song
In this video of Phil Wickham, he talks about how to write a song. He tells the audience that in order to start, you need something to sing about; he calls it "the anchor of the song". He explains how he sees a song as a sentence. He says that the chorus is the subject, bridge is the adverb, and the verses make up the rest of the sentence. He also told the audience to not be afraid to rewrite parts of the song or even the whole song. He talked about how it's exponentially more difficult to finish a song when it isn't something that you're passionate about writing. He tells the audience to meditate on a phrase that speaks to you and go from there, to let it flow out and then polish.
There were a ton of amazing nuggets to get from this video. If you're wondering how to write a song, listen to this video; I'll link it here. This helped me speak kinder to myself when writing songs. I hate having to rewrite things. I feel like if it isn't perfect on the first draft then I'm not talented...which couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, as I was thinking about the video and what to write in this blog, I found a subject for a possible sentence ;)
Hope you enjoyed!
