Inspiration from Sermons and Prayers
In this video, Paul Baloche talks about how when he is listening to a sermon, he normally has his journal, and sometimes--with the permission of his pastor--he will get up on stage and improvise a few words to chords and repeat them with the congregation. He says that it isn't about singing a song, it's about communing with the Lord. Baloche also talks about the way that he lets his mind wonder while writing songs and how they come into a song. He talks about how he goes to prayer meetings and write things down and listen and just let your heart pour out.
I really liked this video because it was like a testimony of how inspiration can come from anything and anyone. I liked how he talked about how we are servants in our songwriting and that he brings his journal to Church and prayer meetings and such. I think that is so important, not just as songwriters but also as worship leaders. My pastor often says "note takers are history makers" and it's true. Taking notes allows you to go back and remember the things you once heard and often times a new thing jumps out each time you go through it. There is something very powerful about notes, so I love how much he talked about that aspect.
